Old Players

I played for Northwich for three seasons, 1975-1977 mainly for the thirds and seconds. I remember many of the 1st. players from that time, Captain, John Pollard, Keith Houghton, Steve Yates, Alan Thompson and David Bailey to name but a few, can anyone remember any of the other great players from that time? It is great to see the old Club heading back to the Cheshire League where it belongs.
I have passed the first stage Umpire's course, but found I had little or no time this year to do any umpiring, I hope to take it up more fully next season. If the club need an Umpire for a second team game let me know and I will see if I am free.

Hi WHS. Great to know that some ''older'' players are using our forum.

I also remember the players you mention, as i played at the old ground then as well.

I've spoken to Simon James, the clubs trustee, and he asked me to post this reply, inviting you down to the club tomorrow, or anytime you're free.

My name is Steve Riley, please feel free to visit. The 1st Xl are at home tomorrow (August 15th), and maybe enjoy a drink or two?

I might even get to know your name?

Hope to see you soon.

Sorry to see the 1st Team lost, but best of luck next week. In an article already written I state that I hope that by the time it is in print Northwich will be at long last back in the Cheshire League, I do hope it turns out that way, you deserve it after all the hard work done over the last few years.

PS I donated the Jubilee Cup to the Club many years ago when I was not very well off. I can now afford to donate a tenner for a prize to the youngster who wins it this year, I will do the same every year from now on if you wish.

Who and where do I give the tenner to? A word of warning, I tend to be a bit of a Jonah, teams I support are rarely successful. (Tottenham Hotspur, Witton Albion, Sale, Warrington Rugby League Club) I came down to watch the first team a few weeks ago and your promotion challenge immediately ended!! I retire in December and from then on I am free to do what I want, might do some umpiring as I passed the lower level exam earlier this year but had no free time to take it on.
