Northwich cc 381-9 (25) beat Mere cc 149ao by a lot!

Northwich ended a promising first season in meller Braggins division 1 by obliterating the league record by posting a mammoth 381-9 in there allotted 45 overs and finally putting everything together even with a makeshift batting order.

Northwich captain john O’Sullivan won the toss on a flat mere wicket and Martyn East opened with U15 Josh Maddock on his first team debut. The pair put on a rapid 131 off the first 15 overs with Maddock outscoring East for a while before he opened his shoulders smashing 43 runs in 2 overs before falling to a good catch on the square leg boundary for 84. This brought the usual number 11 kimber to the crease and he continued his reputation for runscoring on the last game of the season as he smashed 32 while josh Maddock was unlucky to be bowled for 44 just 6 short of a first team 50 on debut. Opening bowler Rich Maddock then came in 4 and also cashed in hitting some cracking cover drives to the boundary before he was bowled for 22. Kev douglas then played a solid innings to keep the innings flowing and was replaced by son craig who hit 2 glorious cover drives but was caught and bowled shortly after for 16, jamieson also looked in good touch as he has all season until he was caught on the pull for 13. capain O’Sullivan joined sefton at the c rease in the unusual position of number 9 where he looked quite at home and the pair took the mere bowling to the sword as they put on 112 in 10 overs before O’Sullivan was stumped for 64 attempting another big shot. Sefton shortly followed for a dominant 67 when he was bowled by the mere skipper who picked up figures of 2-113 from 13 overs. Stuart hayes and Matt lightburn then finished off the innings as they both finished 11 not out.

The Champagne moment of the game happened in the first over of meres innings however when the mere aussie was bowled first ball by a moon ball by hayes who opened the bowling with jamieson whos fast bowling career started and ended in 1 over even tho josh Maddock dropped a half chance at mid wicket. Craig douglas replaced him and bowled a fine spell and he was unlucky not to pick up a couple more wickets than the one he got with a well disguised slower ball, meanwhile Hayes got the other Mere opener with a quicker ball after being hit for 6 and then picked up 2 more quick wickets with well directed pies the mere batsmen were trying to hit into next season! Josh maddock bowled 4 tight overs to keep the pressure on and jimmy Kimber bowling spin also caused a few problems for no reward. After Hayes picked up his 5 wicket haul he was replaced by Kev douglas who bowled in good areas and was unlucky not to pick up a couple of wickets. Ashley sefton replaced him and took 2 wickets quickly to leave 2 wickets to win for Northwich. Hayes responded picking one of them up and at the other end jamiesons spin career also came to an end before east replaced him taking a wicket with his first ball to wrap up a fine season for northwich.
luck isn't chance, luck is earned by dedication, determination and sheer hard work!!!
