Ready for 'Super' Saturday?!

Postby Chris Gayle on Mon Aug 17, 2009 9:23 am

Morning fellas!

I've got mixed feelings from last weekend. Great to open the batting for 2s and get a vital 20 points - but not so good to hear about the defeats for 1s and 3s and even worse news about Bo's car window.

However, this weekend could prove to be massive for the club. To take a quote from Top Gun! :- It's the middle of the night & the scores are tight!
Ashton are the opponents for 1s and 2s while the 3s host Audlem in their final Saturday game at Moss Farm this season. I think we may have lost a bit of focus in recent weeks at NCC and there are a few smiles missing off certain faces! We are far more likely to perform and win games if we're enjoying it!

To state the bloody obvious, to ''WIN'' a one-day cricket match, when batting 1st, 10 wickets required.

Still 2nd though, so all is well???

I maybe wrong though?

I agree mate!

But im going to have to correct your Top Gun quote!

Should be "Its the bottom of the 9th, and the scores are tied" as in a baseball score!

We all know the games are huge boys so lets get to nets and work on our game - saturday was an off day for ones but it needs to be forgotten about now - pointless dwelling on it !!

As for twos it must be Bo's inspirational quotes stirring the lads into top performances!!!

someone explain to me what happened to Bo's window please ??

Slogger - you havent played competitive cricket for a few years so you may not have realised that the game has changed slightly.

When batsmen come out and swing at everything theres no use having everyone close to the bat !! and when we are at home there is no use having a ring of 4 slips and a gully as the ball rarely goes there so your better having a short cover or mid wicket !!!!

When the luck isnt with you it is hard to get 10 wickets !!!!!
be the player you want to play alongside!!!!

You're quite right John, i havn't played ''competitive'' cricket for 20 odd years, but then again not many at the club have.

Can still remember how they used to play though. And yes, the game has changed, which disappoints me, the same as attitude and committment has changed.

Just my own personal opinion you understand.

Everyone has an opinion that they are totally entitled too.

But every sport looks simple from the outside looking in! Thats why we all think that we could do better than Fergie or that fat spanish waiter as a footy manager - then make an F-Up of it when we do fantasy footy!

The only people that know where things went wrong are the people that are involved in the games! And its up to Sully to notice things that need putting right - nobody else!

As ive said before, we were written off by most at the start of the season and were told that we would struggle to stay up!

How about a little credit for us still being in with a good shout of winning the title?! and we havent even played well yet!

But then again, negativity is what we do best at our club!

To be fair Jim - I'm not sure if a few players are clever enough to have an opinion!! ha ha!

And there is no way Fergie or Rafa could do a better job than Sully and me last year in Mid-Cheshire! Sunday Prem league, 7s Prem league and both Sunday league cups?!

Credit is a tough thing to give at NCC as it doesn't seem to come easily within the club. Expectation levels are so high due to recent successes that even drawn games are seen as a failure at times! We are the most progressive club I know - with a junior section that is outstanding. The adult teams are strong and in a reverse way - it is a credit to us that teams only play to draw against us some weeks because they are simply not good enough to beat us!

As Jimmy and Jonny have both commented things didn't go our way on Saturday and surprisingly it was the bowling and fielding that let us down.

This has been what has won us games all season as it's been the batting that hasn't fired.

I think we have all been involved in games where one or two batsmen chance their arm and they come off which is what happened on Saturday. Yes catches went down but as we say time and again no one drops them on purpose. As the batting seemed to come together on Saturday with Easty, Oaky and Jaimo all getting starts and Sully capitalising on his I think we should be feeling confident as if we perform like that AND the other departments get back on track there is no reason whatsoever for us not to beat AOM.

If like Jimmy and Funk have mentioned people changed their approach and tried something new by actually getting behind the 1's and 2's then maybe the teams may actually feel that they are doing things right instead of having to look at the leagues for a bit of moral support.

That's just part of playing sport isn't it mate? Sometimes things go with you and sometimes your luck isn't in (eg. LBW decisions!)! - But I'm a firm believer that you do make you're own luck!! That could be through a host of things like preparation, determination or simply enjoying your cricket!

Ps. I'm far better at watching sport than I am at playing it!!

My words of wisdom are:-
Look in the mirror and take a good look at yourself.. If you've got hair - you're not Bo!

I couldn't agree more mate and would agree that you make your own luck. Some might say that on Saturday ours just ran out, others might say we were lucky as we didn't lose any ground on AOM. But I personally think it was a bad day at the office so my personal thoughts on that are to right Saturday off and start looking at this weekend.
At the end of the day we were all out there to win. We dropped a couple of chances and they got lucky with where the ball fell etc. No one died and we are still second.

As I'm sure it will be said at some point - if at the start of the season we were offered this position would we of taken it??? Absolutely!! To be second, 4 points behind the leaders about to take them on I think we'd of been pretty happy with that. Our confidence has seen us home in a number of games and I would expect the team to go out with the same attitude again this weekend.

All in our hands with batsmen in form and i'm sure normal service will resume with regards to the bowling and fielding.

Luck never runs out mate - you just have to earn more!! (A bit like Burnley did last night - up the CLARETS!). And no-one ever drops catches on purpose - though we managed to keep the Barnton 2s opener in for an extra hour on sat by dropping him 3 times - could be called tactical supremacy by Bo though cos he only made 42 off about 35 overs!!

Lets keep enjoying our cricket and put things right! Yet again - both sides are having a great season & I'm guaranteed a medal already!!!!!
